| BandQuest is a series of
new music for middle-level band. It's written especially
for young students by world class composers. The series
is published by the American Composers Forum (St. Paul,
MN), an organization that has supported the creative
spirit of today's composers since 1975.
Our Goals
Informed by the National Standards for Arts Education,
BandQuest is designed to provide students with engaging
new
music that represents the immense range and richness
of musical
traditions. The interdisciplinary CD-ROM that accompanies
the first three pieces in the series is designed to
facilitate
learning of the music itself. It also helps to understand
how music relates to other aspects of life and learning.
The
curriculum gives students the tools they need to create
their
own music. Plus, it encourages them to explore musical
connections
across disciplines and geographical boundaries.
Organization Information
The American Composers Forum links communities with
composers and performers, encouraging the making, playing
and enjoyment of new music. With 1,700 members and a
wide variety of innovative programs, the Forum has grown
into one of the largest composer-service organizations
in the United States. It currently has chapters in Atlanta,
Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul,
New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington
D.C.
